Ely KOA in Ely Nevada | June 1981 & May 2016
Excerpt from my grandmother’s travel journal on June 10th, 1981: “Got Tent Site #18 and were more than surprised, what a beautiful campground it was! Tents on the thick lush lawn, between neatly set shrubs & rustic fences, red octagonal table with four tree stump seats. Showers & restrooms spanking clean and fresh smelling!”
Just like my grandmother, I was also struck by the beauty of this campground. I enjoyed a cabin on the lush lawn that she spoke of and found peace in the stunning Nevada landscape. Modern cabins now occupy where my grandparents had their tent but the friendly staff enjoyed walking the grounds with me, making it their mission to hunt down the exact angle of the photograph. We even came across old rocks that had once listed each site number, but were now discarded and strewn in the brush on the campground.
