Bonneville Salt Flats in Tooele County, Utah | May 1979 & September 2015
Excerpt from my grandmother’s travel journal on May 6th, 1979: “No welcome sign to Utah! But two miles in the white cloudy-looking salt, a very modern rest area, with an observation ‘tower’ and big curved roofs over a part of the parking area to shield cars from the sun! The wind on that little tower blew fiercely & cold – the car is hot! Mirages building up from the heat, lakes reflecting even the mountains. Mountains swimming in the air like Caribbean reefs & islands in the ocean; icebergs floating & reflecting in non-existent water. An unbelievable illusion!”
